How would you stock a 20 gallon tall aquarium?

I have a 20 gallon tall aquarium. It is empty right now. What are some different ways you would stock it?

Fourth is the 20 gallon high. There is not as much space to stock as a 20 gallon long or a 29 gallon, but there are still many options.

Stocking 1
again, the dwarf gourami- they are great centerpeice fish for small tanks.
6 larger tetras, such as black skirts, diamonds, red eyes, or lemons- black skirt tetras, diamonds, and red eyes are very similar in temperment and size. Lemon tetras are a bit smaller.
4 corydoras, such as pandas or shcwartz’s- panda corydoras get to around 2 inches long, a bit smaller than schwartz’s. Both are very active in groups, and should be kept in them. Great community fish!

4 platies
6 neons (possibly lemons if one platy is deducted, one corydoras is deducted, or pygmy corydoras are substituted)

Though honestly, I would not get a snail, and you could probably get away with getting a larger cory like pepper or bronze and be okay. Here are some ideas that I have

Stocking 1-
-4-6 female bettas (get them all at the same time, you can find some really pretty ones)
-4-5 cories (any species you want except for giant, like peppered, bronze, juhli, albino, panda)

Stocking 2-
-8-10 male guppies (get all sorts of colors, don’t get females though or you have to worry about them breeding)
-4 corydoras (any species)

Stocking 3-
-1 male betta (get last)
-5 chain loaches (dwarf loaches, only grow to 2″)
-5 kuhli loches (need sand or rounded gravel)

Stocking 4-
-3-5 balloon sailfin mollies (female)
-4-5 cories (any species)

Stocking 5-
-1 male african cichlid that grows to be under 4″ like a (male because they like to live alone)

You could have some fun building a few caves. I had a male auratus (I got him from my neighbors, really pretty blue & black, killed 2 females he was with in a ten gallon tank) and he had tons of personanlity. I had fun watching him, he would use is mouth to move gravel to where he would want it.
