Every season, there is a new idea that comes into fashion for weddings. This is fun, because it gives brides plenty of fresh new inspiration for their big day. For the latest look in wedding centerpieces, consider adding some moss to your flowers.

Hmm…moss, you may be thinking, what can moss really add to my centerpieces? Well, there are actually a variety of ways to use moss to create table designs that are interesting and artistic. Moss can also be used in a range of different styles, from rustic to romantic to woodsy and lush.

For over the top wedding centerpieces, one of the hottest new trends is to have your florist recreate a living garden or forest scene right in the middle of each reception table. Instead of having one vase with a stiff arrangement of flowers, the look is to have a multi-layered display with high and low elements, just like nature. The flowers can be mixed in with the moss for designs that are lush and overflowing. The moss can even be used like a forest floor, with a flower topped tree growing out of it. The effect is absolutely breathtaking, although certainly not for those on a limited budget!

Moss can be used in more modest floral centerpieces, as well. It is easy to obtain, and easy to work with, which can make moss a great choice for do-it-yourself brides. A very romantic wedding centerpiece is the topiary, which you can make yourself by covering Styrofoam forms with moss and adding in a few flowers. The moss makes a great filler between the blossoms.

A wonderful theme for a wedding is a woodland “Midsummer’s Night Dream” inspired reception. Imagine an outdoor setting in a garden or even a forest clearing. If you do not happen to have such a location available to you, you can design your own woodland paradise right in your local indoor venue. The look for this type of wedding should be romantic and ethereal, with the bride in a flowing gown and delicately handmade wedding jewelry.

The moss can be used as an element in the table centerpieces, but you can go beyond that. Picture bringing in some live potted trees. Deck them out with twinkling white lights, and drip moss and ribbons strung with flower blossoms from the branches. Your guests will feel as though they have been transported to an enchanted fairyland, instead of a hotel ballroom.

Perhaps you are a more rustic type of bride. Do you envision yourself getting married in a linen wedding dress and earthy handmade wedding jewelry? Then you can use moss in combination with other natural elements to create the reception of your dreams. Imagine using vessels made from pieces of bark instead of traditional glass vases to create your wedding centerpieces. You can fill them with a mixture of moss and wildflowers for table displays that are both rustic and pretty.

Once you start thinking about all of the ways that you can use moss in your wedding centerpieces, it is like a lightbulb switching on. Aha, you will think – there is almost nothing that I cannot do with moss to add interest and texture to my wedding flowers. The addition of an element as simple as moss can have a surprisingly big impact on your centerpieces.
