Which Benadryl should I give my dog after a rattlesnake bite?
Didn’t have Benadryl onhand last time my dog was bit and his head swelled up twice the size in matter of minutes….
so bought these just in case:
1. Benadryl allergy
2. Benadryl Dye-free allergy
3. Safeway allergy (says on box: “Compare to Benadryl Allergy Kapseals active ingredient*”)
So which one is safe in case of a snake bite to stop the swelling? Will all three work the same or just stick with Benadryl?
Just to clarify: my dog was bit about two weeks ago and was taken to ER for anti-venom treatment. He survived miracously and is now back to his normal self.
I was talking about in the future if it happens again. Last time everyone said I should give him Benadryl so was wondering exactly what type would be best.
Benadryl only helps for allergic reactions. It does not counteract venom from a rattlesnake or any other creature. You need to get your dog to a vet for the same treatment if it happens again. The swelling is due to tissue damage from the venom, not a release of histamine.
