When one looks back at his childhood days he would relate himself to mostly all the domestic pets one can think about. Especially in Certain regions where the trend of adopting hamsters as pets is more prominent, a person would have had got more chances to encounter these creatures either in his school time or in household. Hamster is one of the species whose popularity slowly shoots up. There are various dissimilar species available .If one looks at the list of these he might find dwarf hamster breeds a popular and an interesting type. Though it is smaller than the normal hamster one gets to see at the local pet house, it has something that attracts.

The world of hamsters are getting new additions due to the advent of technology, but still the dwarf hamster that has four kinds, is the famous one. The four types are the Campbells Russian hamster, the Siberian hamster, Roborovski hamster, and the Chinese hamster. Amongst these, the Chinese hamster is not purely looked at as one of the dwarf breeds. It is even placed under the rat-like hamster group because of its longer tail, which is distinctly unique to its breed.

When one looks at hamsters in a pet store, one never fails to witness a dwarf hamster. The widely found breed of dwarf hamster that one can find in a pet store is The Campbells Russian dwarf hamster. It is popularly called a Djungaria hamster, as it is normally witnessed in a Mongolian area with the same name.

Some of this species might be popular and some might be not. Though the Siberian or Winter White hamster is not as popular as the Campbells Russian hamster it is a unique hamster that can modify the color of its coat from tan like color to a nearly white coat. To name an attraction of this breed, many would come up with the three stripes, which the Siberian hamster has on its body, which is possibly its distinction from the other species. But the stripes remain the same even when the color of the coat changes.

What would happen to the other breed of same species, if they don’t get a mention in articles of this type? The smallest of all the breeds and the third of the hamster breeds is the Roborovski hamster. The absence of the dorsal stripe on its body unlike all other breeds is one of the strange features of the Roborovski hamster. This makes it unique from the rest.

After getting to know about the first three species of its type, it is mandatory for one to introduce Chinese hamster now, as still people are there who are not willing to classify it under the dwarf hamster category. The final breed of hamster is known as Chinese hamster that shares some features with a normal rat such as short nose and a slightly elongated tail. Despite of the fact that it falls under other hamster groups, it is still usually placed in the dwarf hamster category.
