Can aquatic plants live without water?

Hi, I used to have a betta in a 2.5 gallon tank with a few live plants. The poor betta died (he was over 3 years old!) and now we are moving, so I’m not getting a new fish until after we move. My question is: During the move, can I drain the water from the tank? Or will that kill my plants? If I can’t drain the water, do you have any suggestions for transporting live aquatic plants?

You can wrap the plants in wet newspapers and then put them in plastic bags. This will eliminate any chance of water seepage, and they will happily survive for over 48 hours.

I have carried aquatic plants from Hong Kong to United Kingdom and the process took me about 16 hours until I reached home and another 4-6 hours before I finally managed to immerse them in a water bucket. They were as fresh before that and fresher even after…so I guess it did not hurt.
