Why do little fishies die so easily?

I have some little tropical community fish. They’ve been doing well since I set the tank up last week, but today one suddenly just keeled over and died. These little fish seem to be very sensitive and fragile (I’ve always noticed this). Am I a bad fish mommy, or are these little fish just like this? I’ve always wondered why they die off so easily.

Any tips appreciated. The fish that died was a lemon tetra, if that helps.

your tank wasn’t cycled. Once you added your new fish it spiked the ammonia and nitrites therefore killing your fish.
