What kind of heat lamp is the best for a leopard gecko?

I have a leopard gecko and I had a red bulb before, but my mom just bought one a black light. Which is better? Also, since I live in California in the 90 upper and 100 degrees is a fire of heat required?

You want to stay away from black light bulbs because they can see that the spectrum and mess with the cycle of day / night. You really should recover and get a reptile bulb red. They do not see very well the spectrum, so do not mind. The power is going to depend on the temperature in your home. I doubt that your home is in the 90s, so I guess a 100W light bulb to be OK, but you really need to get a good digital thermometer with a probe to measure time more accurately. You can get an application at Target or Wal-Mart for about $ 10. Also, take a dimmer so you can turn the lamp intensity down if the weather is its wide range of 88-92 in the hottest part of the tank.
