how do you identify sexes in koi or goldfish?

i have a koi/goldfish pond and my fish have done exceptionally well, they seem very healthy and have grown from 1 1/2″ in length, to about 10″ in approximately 1 year. i would like to provide a natural enviornment for breeding purposes. what do i need for this to happen? how long before i see results under the right conditions?

Just take a look at their vent, females have outies and males have innies. Males, during breeding season, will have breeding tubercles on their gills covers and on the front rays of their pectoral fins.
