A fish tank full of living fresh water plants is truly a perfect kind. Imagine your tank filled with fishes of vibrant colors swimming in clean water with swaying plants inside, too natural in the eye. It is like your fishes are swimming freely in their natural marine habitat. It is really right to say that your tank is one of a kind.
Fishes, like humans, if taken away on its own home will not be comfortable. They will always find it strange if filled in an aquarium without plants. For most aquarium owners, choosing a plant to be placed in the tank is greatly one of the most exciting parts of making fishes as pets. However, it still requires thorough selection process.
Actually, there are numerous kinds of living fresh water aquarium plants available in the market for your selection. But given its wide array of plant selection, one should be very careful in choosing which plant take home for your fishes. Not all of these variants will work best in an aquarium. Here are some facts that you need to know in terms of popular aquarium plants.
- Floating plants. Yes, floating plants are quite good in your aquarium. However, it only is specifically beneficial for certain types of fishes. Usually, floating plants are best to be placed in an aquarium with small fishes to serve as their hideout against predators.
- Bulb plants. Water lily and aponogeton are common examples of bulb plants. These types of plants are commonly used in large ponds and aquariums with koi fishes. Bulb plants are actually not suitable in smaller versions of aquarium that are usually seen on homes.
- Rosette. Maybe you have seen this kind of plant already for it is commonly seen on many aquarium tops. Typically, rosette looks like a crown with its roots growing under it. Such examples of Rosette plants are Sagittaria and the beautiful Amazon Sword. This kind is very well known to grow beautiful, especially with radiant flowers.
- Rhizome. Rhizome can also brag for what it can offer to your aquarium. It has thick and horizontal stems with leaves amazingly sprouting on top and with roots growing at the bottom. Rhizomes can also be used as runners on sub surfaces.
- Java Moss. This Java Moss is also known as the Java Fern. This is a good starter plant, which is not sensitive in water because it grows in any PH level of water.
- Water Wisteria. This kind of plant is a monster when it comes to water nutrients for it gets much of nutrients from the water. However, it helps on minimizing the algae content.
- Anubia Nana. This kind of plant is quite remarkable for it strives in any kind of condition. Many found it really attractive because it perfectly looks like a flower in the water. Plus, if you are raising herbivore fishes, you can set aside all your worries for they don’t eat this kind of plant.
Although adding plants on your tank requires extra care, you will still find its worth in the end. It adds appeal and enhances the natural beauty of an aquarium. So if you are thinking of having plants for your tank, make the proper selection first.
