Do I need a need a dual DSL filter if I have no phone next to it?

I have DSL and I was wondering if you really need the dual filter even though I don’t have a phone hooked up to it. I know I need a single filter on my only phone in the living room. A tech told me I don’t need the dual filter since theres no phone hooked up to it. Is this true?

You need it if you have a home security system or other security alarm systems.
