Can I make an Excel calculated value update with an auto-filter?

Is there a way to make my excel formula update when I filter the data?

For Example…
My 1st Column consists of letters and my 2nd column consists of numbers. I have a formula on my 4th column that calculates the average of column 2. Can I make it so that average automatically updates to the Average of the 2nd column where the 1st column = “Z” after I auto-filter the 1st column to “Z”?

Use the SUBTOTAL function. This function will do several different things like Sum, Average, Count, Min, Max etc. but it does it for only visible cells. So it works well with the Auto-filter feature.

If you want to Average column B of just the Auto-filtered visible values
=SUBTOTAL(1, B:B)

The “1″ in the formula specifies you want to average.
