Is a gravel filter worth it ifi have an external canister filter too?

I have an aquarium with gravel and I wanted to cut down on larger debris that comes from freeze dried foods, etc. If I put in a gravel filter, would it get the larger debris as well? What else can I do to keep my gravel cleaner

A reverse flow undergravel filter will probably help.

That means setting it up with a power head pumping water down into the filter trays and back up through the gravel. That gives you some usefull backup filtering while reducing the amount of crud that builds up in the gravel.
