Sponge filter is a type often overlooked filtration for aquariums or freshwater ponds, and even marine aquariums. Many people look beyond their simplicity, as ineffective, but therein lies its quality. I used to maintain my aquarium, more than 27 years with excellent results. Here is a list of its attributes:

[1] Easy to use, most pumps operate in air or a very basic unit. A beginner aquarium filter better because of the simplicity and cost. But Sponge filters are also popular among breeders and research facilities because filters are very effective, but simple.

With these pre-filter sponge, filter bedside are of poor to acceptable biological filters, with them, are excellent.

[13] Sponge filters are ideal for planted tanks, they do not interfere with the deep structures and maintain a biological balance that is ideal for planted tanks.
