How to change aquarium gravel?

I have an aquarium with multi-colored gravel and I want to change the gravel without harming my fish. I have 1 otocinclus currently and I am planning to increase fish and plants but first I want create a suitable environment.

Do it gradually so you can transition the bacteria that will be in the old gravel. I’d say about once a week take out a little of the old and put a little of the new in its place. It may take a while because it’s you’re being tedious, but at least you’ll do it in a way that won’t be a harsh transition for your fish.
